When Patty (not real name) called me she was hopeless.
She wanted to lose weight. She wanted to modify her eating lifestyle. She wanted to exercise. She wanted to feel good. She wanted to be in control of herself. So, why was she hopeless?
Because she kept trying diet after diet and she kept trying mind over matter to no avail.
How hypnosis can work for you
Her first question to me, “Can you guarantee my results?”
On the other end of the phone I smiled.
My reply, “Patty, I can’t guarantee what I am going to do with my life much less guarantee what you are going to do with your life.” I went on to explain that no one can go above our free will. She would still have to choose how much food she puts on her plate, whether or not she would exercise, etc.
We are free will agents.
Hypnosis is not a magic wand. Well, some of my clients believe it is but I know the real magic is in them. Successful clients simply utilize hypnosis to change their mind to change their life. Successful clients reinforce the work we do together in the office at home with the tools I equip them with.
I believe in empowering my clients.
Self empowerment is the key to breaking out of stuck thinking and behaviors. It’s about breaking through comfort zones and barriers. It’s about experiencing new levels of mind and feelings.
It’s about experiencing life more abundantly!
Do I hear, ‘Yeah BUT Joann I tried that and it didn’t work for me!’?
Yes, you are absolutely right! The problem with “trying” is that you were trying to break out while still functioning through your limiting beliefs, whether they be conscious or unconscious. Back to Patty’s story…
In her first session with me she communicated the following:
- She was at the point of having no will power whatsoever.
- She was engaged in complete mindless eating.
- She had all the exercise equipment, all the DVDs, etc, she planned on exercising after work but it didn’t happen.
- She realized she had no idea how much she was actually eating.
- She was so afraid of failing yet again at another attempt to get her weight under control.
As you might have guessed she would often engage in mindless eating. Just standing in the kitchen eating whether she was hungry or not.
And in addition to that she knew she was putting way too much food on her plate at home. Forget about the portions at the restaurants! She knew those servings far exceed the calories she needs. It wasn’t that she didn’t “know” these things, it’s that she didn’t seem able to break bad habits.
I assured her that this time it would be different, because this time she was going to break through her limiting beliefs and develop a conscious eating lifestyle.
Diets don’t work. Eating lifestyle is enjoying read food while being mindful of the portion size and the balance of the foods.
Drum roll please – Patty’s outcome throughout her three sessions:
- She is no longer even thinking about food.
- She is conscious of what she chooses to eat and how much she chooses to eat.
- She exercises daily because she wants to.
When I say that she’s no longer “thinking” about food I mean she is no longer doing the mindless eating thing. For example, she no longer catching herself in the kitchen eating out of the cupboards and refrigerator randomly. Now she enjoys real food in portion sizes which are right for her body.
She now knows food is fuel for the body so she selects whole, energizing foods.
For exercise some days it’s a walk. Other days it’s dancing to a DVD at home. If she feels like working out with light weights she does that as well.
Would you be surprised if I told you Patty’s mindset has changed from hopeless to, “I can do it and I Am doing it!!!”
