Hypnotherapy works when you’re taught how to work it!
It took me 6 months to overcome all of my fears and technical challenges but I did it! Ok, so I didn’t work on it every day. Ok, so I didn’t even work on it once a month. I can tell you, I started “trying” to do it in January and I tenaciously succeeded this month of July.
Chances are you can relate to this or not.
It seems like a simple enough task. Just follow the guidelines for the write up and do a 15 second video. What really happens? You sit at the laptop and your mind goes blank. Blank. Nothing. Nada. Then anxiety hits and you can no longer sit in your chair. It’s a great time to go to the bathroom, eat, have a cigarette, have a drink, anything to distract you from the awful thoughts that are bouncing around in your head because you just can’t do the simple task.
Maybe the simple task for you is having to lay down some serious boundaries with people you live with. Or maybe it’s having to talk with your employer about the overdue raise you deserve because you were hired to do the work of one person but now you’re expected to do the work of two or more people. Not to mention, you are doing a great job but it’s taking a toll on your personal life, your health and financially it’s not paying off. You even know that you could get a better job but you still have a passion for this one and you would love to stay but you have to make a decision in regard to your quality of life.
Taught not told?
When is the last time somebody taught you that you need to practice doing life? Like never, or maybe you have been fortunate to be working with a practitioner (there’s the word “practice” again) who understands how to better practice using our magnificent minds and bodies. Do you know any good athletes or good musicians who don’t practice regularly? For that matter, do you know anybody who’s good at what they do and don’t practice doing it over and over?!
Sometimes it’s not enough to be told to do something. Sometimes we need to be taught how to do something. This reminds me of the personal frustrations I was experiencing in my earlier years of life. Wonderfully gifted natural doctors would tell me I was sick from my emotions. To my recollection, they did not teach me what to do with my emotions so I could get healthier. You probably have had, if not presently are having this very dilemma, right?
I did the best I knew to do at that time in my life.
I yelled at myself. I called myself terrible names. I pushed myself harder and harder. I read books, I listened to cassette tapes, I listened to CDs, I watched DVDs (my journey began decades ago). Seriously, a million years ago, a therapist asked me, “When are you going to stop banging your bloody head against the wall?” BUT he didn’t teach me what to do instead. Well, second thought, maybe he did try, he suggested divorce, but at that time I was of the opinion that divorce was not an option. I did divorce many years later. Ops maybe I just digressed a bit.
In hypnotherapy I teach my clients how to. How to what? The bottom line is how to overcome ourselves. Some schools of thought call it breakthroughs, transformation, inner revolution, making the inner environment greater than the outer environment, transcending the self, loving and accepting ourselves (consider the option – downer), the list is endless. Is it easy? No. Is it worth it? Yes!
It’s a process, not perfection.
It takes courage to face our life long habits and beliefs and to decide, now is the time I Am changing me and my life’s direction. It’s not about perfection, it’s about progress.
I almost forgot to mention what I was talking about in my first couple of paragraphs! Drum roll please. Here it is, https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/therapists/joann-dunsing-hypnosis-llc-milford-ct/183402
